It has insulated cold.rdy fleece lining that keeps you warm in even the nippiest breeze, it’s well fitted to your head so it doesn’t slip up or down during the round, and the colour options are brilliant, with the jacquard design to keep you looking sharp.

I wore this on a windy day on the course and then to teach in and had no issue wearing it for 5-6 hours without adjustment, and I really like how it brightens up the standard dark winter golf outfit.

Oscar Jacobson Tammis Bobble Hat

The Oscar Jacobson Tammis bobble hat is ideal for the upcoming wintery conditions. A well-designed comfortable hat to help keep you warm throughout your round.

I really like the colours available and the marl contrast to look stylish without being too eye catchy. Despite being thick it still rolls up nice and easily to slip into the side pocket of your bag when no longer required.  

Overall, I am really happy with the Tammis bobble hat. It looks great on the course, off the course, feels very comfortable and keeps you as warm as needed. This will be getting lots of wear time out on the golf course this winter.

When it comes to the winter elements, I’m someone who very much enjoys wrapping up to keep warm out on the course, as I imagine a lot of us are. Wearing a comfortable, yet warm beanie is one of my first priorities during the colder months. 

The Under Armour Men’s Halftime Pom Beanie is an absolute must-have this winter if you’re planning on golfing deep into the winter period. The beanie is made from soft acrylic knit fabric which helps deliver an extremely warm and a soft, comfortable feel on your head and most importantly keep those ears warm while you concentrate on your game. 

The beanie’s great classic pom look and multiple colour options, means this doesn’t just look stylish while out on the course, you’ll certainly be able to get your use out of it away from the course as well.

Ping SensorDry Bucket Hat

I have to declare that I am a big fan of a bucket hat, particularly a waterproof one. As a glasses wearer, a perennial issue for me on the golf course is rain, and keeping said rain off of my glasses. The Ping SensorDry Bucket Hat does this perfectly, the wide brim offers full protection, even if the rain is coming in at an angle. The front of the brim also has a firm but not particularly noticeable peak, which adds another layer of protection in keeping the rain off your face. 

The hat is lightweight and breathable which is great, but the feature I really like is that it truly is a one-size-fits-all all. There is a hidden size adjuster, meaning that the hat can be adjusted to fit all. For those worried about windy conditions, then there is an adjustable cord which can be tightened to negate this, this cord is also removable. 

For anyone looking for a top-performing bucket hat, I would 100% recommend the Ping SensorDry.

Noble Wooly Hat

If you are looking for a great value item to keep your head warm this winter then you may want to consider the Noble bobble hat from Stuburt. It comes in just one size but it is certainly large enough to cover your ears and provide warmth. It does, however, lack a fleecy lining, which would have provided extra comfort.  

Although there is just one size, there is a choice of three colours, all of which look pretty stylish. All have a horizontal stripe type design, which provides visual interest and can brighten up a normally dark winter waterproof outfit. 

On the rolled hem, there is quite a prominent logo on the hat, which may limit the off-course appeal, but this is another great piece of kit at a low price from Stuburt.

Bobble Beanie

This is very much a golfer’s hat. However, it really is very good-looking, with the main part contrasting with the cuff. The thin stripes give it a contemporary look. The stitched logo has a feel of quality about it, and while prominent, isn’t too overbearing.

It has a lovely soft lining and is, unsurprisingly, extremely comfortable. The internal lining has a thermal fleece-lined construction. This thick lining is perfect for the colder weather due to the amount of warmth it adds.

This is a perfect addition to your bag for winter golf.

Insulating headwear is an essential component of the golfer’s winter wardrobe. It would be a mistake to wander out onto the golf course in the middle of winter without a warm beanie in your golf bag.

The Edison knitted hat is a simply designed but smart bobble hat that comes in a choice of three colours but just one size. I thought the dark grey melange looked really classy. 

There is a fleecy lining for comfort and warmth. The size of the hat allows you to pull it down over your ears and the subtle ‘Abacus’ sign means that this is a piece of kit that can be used off the course with ease. It’s also good value, so comes highly recommended.

Bobble Hat

Payntr is a relatively new company in the golf wear industry but has made a big splash in a short amount of time.

This bobble hat is made from acrylic and is very comfortable on. Although not lined, it has a double layer of the knitted Jacquard acrylic so it keeps your head nice and warm.

It is one colour with a prominent Payntr logo on the cuff. The bobble is a mixture of the two colours. It has a bold, modern look to it, which is in keeping with the Payntr brand. 

This is a one-size-fits-all all model and is unisex.

TaylorMade
Storm Bucket Hat

I have never owned this style of hat, to my cost. Rain running down one’s face is bad enough but when combined with wearing glasses it does make golf even more challenging.

The Storm Bucket Hat from TaylorMade is the answer. Its 2.5-inch brim is just the right compromise between protection and remaining unobtrusive during the swing. I tested the black version, which had a pleasing, almost velvety look and texture to it. The website states it is water-resistant, but the label on the hat says waterproof.

In testing, there was no evidence of any water absorption. It has a relaxed stretch fit construction, which keeps it in place comfortably. The printed TaylorMade logo is tasteful. This is something I will keep in my golf bag from now on.

Original Penguin
Quilted Flat Cap

A different look for AW23 is brought to the course by the Original Penguin Quilted Flat Cap. The sleek and elegant design is akin to that seen in Peaky Blinders and that is certainly a selling point for this product.

The gold stitching around the brim and outer edges of the cap is a lovely design with the logo – ‘an original Penguin by Munsingwear’ sewn in beautifully into the back section of the cap. In inner material is quilted, with overlapping penguin Petes stitched in for another cool plus.

That mix of materials on both inside and outside provides warmth for the head, and with the moisture-wicking sweatband, the Quilted Flat Cap can also be worn in the summer months as well. Due to the material of the cap, rain could become an issue. That’s the only negative for this sleek and elegant design of flat cap from Original Penguin.

Pom Beanie

As someone who hasn’t often worn beanie hats on the golf course, this Puma Pom Beanie hat has gone a long way to changing things overnight.

For me, it is stylish, fun and a great fit which ticks all the boxes you want from a beanie – no matter how simple each feature is. The black and white colour scheme stands out from many other beanies I’ve seen, and it has a very snug fit on my head which made me feel protected and secure on the golf course. The turn-up cuff allows for extra protection if you need it, and it is perfectly finished with the Puma ‘P’ at the front.

The material has been carefully constructed to keep your head warm no matter what conditions you face on the golf course. The Puma script across the main body of the hat might not be to every golfer’s liking, but this shouldn’t take away from what is a solid beanie. 

PROS:

Original Penguin
Quilted Polar Pete Cap

Plenty of players will wear woolly hats in the winter. However, for those who continue to wear caps all year round, the Original Penguin Quilted Polar Pete Cap is a comfortable and good-looking option.

The black peak which encompasses the authentic Original Penguin logo on the front is stylish. It also features an overlapping pattern of Pete logos across the brim. The quilted effect on the front of the cap is a lovely touch and has a very nice feel to it.

However, one problem of playing in inclement weather though is that the material is not great in wet conditions. The blend of acrylic and wool fabric lends itself to becoming sodden in poor conditions, which could see the cap become heavy on the head.
